In a time when many are quick to criticise the youth for not caring about society, a group of young Ghanaians is showing that change is possible when people put their hearts into action.
The One Cedi Is Enough Foundation, led by Mr Isaac Walker and his team of young volunteers, has brought relief and hope to pupils of Kwadaso SDA Basic School through a special donation exercise.
The foundation presented sanitary pads for the girls, exercise books, pens, pencils, toilet rolls and other learning materials to support both education and personal hygiene in the school.
School authorities, teachers, pupils and community members who witnessed the donation were full of praise for the foundation’s kind gesture.
Speaking at the event, officials from the foundation stressed that every child deserves quality education and a clean environment to learn and grow. They noted that many girls miss school because they cannot afford sanitary pads, something that affects their studies. By providing these pads, the group wants to ensure no girl is left behind because of her period.
The donation also underscores the foundation’s strong support for girl child education. When girls are educated, they grow to become strong women who help their families and the nation.
What is remarkable is that this foundation is driven by young people. Instead of focusing only on themselves, Mr Isaac Walker and his colleagues are using their time and resources to help children in need.
Beyond donations, the One Cedi Is Enough Foundation is also an advocacy group. It fights for child rights, speaks against bullying in schools, especially at the SHS level, and stands firmly against all forms of discrimination. The group also campaigns against child labour, insisting that children belong in the classroom and not working under harsh conditions.
This support for Kwadaso SDA Basic School is not the foundation’s first project. Over the years, they have carried out several community initiatives to help the vulnerable and encourage young people to give back to society.
The name “One Cedi Is Enough” carries a deep meaning that when people come together and contribute whatever little they have, they can achieve big things. It is all about unity, compassion and shared responsibility.
As Ghana continues to tackle challenges in education and child welfare, initiatives like this remind us that the future is still bright. The work of the foundation shows that the youth are not just dreaming of a better Ghana they are building it.
The visit to Kwadaso SDA Basic School was more than just giving items. It was a message of hope to the children that they are not alone, that their education matters, and that there are people who genuinely care about their future.
Indeed, through the efforts of Mr Isaac Walker and his team, many young lives are being touched one child, one school, and one cedi at a time.
